Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder
This disorder is marked by chronic irritability that takes the form behaviorally of temper tantrums and emotionally, angry mood every day for most of the day. The temper outburts can be violent physical assaults against others or property, intense verbal rages out of proportion to the situation and occurs in at least two settings. Treatment by Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy in conjunction with mood stablizing medications is best. Dr. Kovner would be stepping in as part of the team with the psychotherapy piece and would coordinate with the family and the psychiatrist.
